For those of you who went to Cornell, want to go to Cornell, have heard of Cornell, or got rejected from Harvard:

This song is for you.

it has nothing to do with cornell and more to do with the fact that we didn't have internet back then!

It's one of the Ivies. There are, apparently, eight of us (which I didn't know until I got here, and I blame that on the fact that I lived on the west coast and who cares about the Ivies anyway?)

Brown, Cornell, Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Princeton, Yale.

when i was in high school and applying to colleges, i knew about harvard b/c it's mentioned on TV and in movies and such. i knew about dartmouth b/c this random guy came to talk to my school about it (which is really bizarre b/c most people from my school don't go to college, let alone private schools). i think i'd heard of yale, but i had no idea where it was. i'd heard of princeton, but wasn't entirely sure what it was. i might've thought it was one of those historically black colleges, since they mentioned it a lot on the cosby show.

i didn't know what ivy league schools were until i was already in college, either.

I knew what the Ivies were, but the only ones I could have named in high school were Harvard and Yale, and as far as I was concerned they were synonymous, and as far as where they were--I knew they were somewhere in the northeast. I pretty much discounted them out of hand as being stuck up places that rich kids went, and not somewhere that really intelligent people went. Which is why I didn't apply to them for undergrad, although in retrospect I wonder if I might have had a chance.

I think I had also heard of Princeton and Penn, because some of my friends got into them, but I don't think I realized they were in the Ivy League.

after i'd applied to schools, i learned about penn. my friend louisa had applied to all of the ivy league schools (her parents were on top of things, whereas mine really couldn't have cared less, even if they'd known about these schools) and penn was the only one she got into. when she first told me, i just didn't get it...i was like...i thought it was the equivalent of a UC, but in pennsylvania.

i'm sure i could've gotten into one of them. i got into stanford and was waitlisted at harvard and dartmouth (the only two ivies i knew of as ivies), but i was valedictorian and i had the best SAT scores in my class, so i imagine i could've at least gotten into penn (instead of louisa, who was ranked well below me). but, i just didn't even know about these schools. everything was paper back then (it wasn't that long ago, but it was long enough ago to make a difference) and you had to know about something in the first place to be able to look it up. i wish my high school had had better college counselors. they just pushed us all to go to cal states.

Also worth noting... all but UPenn have clubs in NYC (which serves UPenn right for being UPenn). UPenn's Wharton School of Management does have a club though.

It does manage to pull in students. It's the largest Ivy League school.
