Next week is Thanksgiving break, and for those of us who attend fancy private Ivy schools, we get the ENTIRE WEEK OFF. This is a new thing for me, and if I had money I would definitely have flown somewhere. Probably home, but you never know.

Anyway, money is tight, so no flying. Today I was going to get in my little car and drive in a random direction, like I did in August when I found that beach in Rhode Island. But it rained, and I slept in, and I ended up not driving anywhere. So. Since I'm not going anywhere for Thanksgiving break, I've come up with a brilliant idea.

I will pack up the tent I still have, and about a million blankets and pillows, and I'll put sandwhichy things into the cooler, and pack everything into said little car, and I'll strike out in a random direction on Saturday. And I'll have a multi-day driving adventure, in which I will probably get horribly lost and will end up somewhere terribly boring.

Of course, by random direction I mean I think I'll head north this time. It would be neat if I could have a list of cool things I might want to stop by and see, if my random driving gets boring and I want some directed driving. Do you recommend anything? Anything in Vermont or Massachussetts or upstate New York, or any of the other New Englandy states? Or should I strike out south and check out Maryland and all that nonsense? I'm pretty easily distracted, so any sort of thing is of possible interest. Including things like corn palaces and giant balls of twine. Do they have that sort of absurdity on the east coast?

I'm also in the process of attempting to convince a friend to come along, but my hopes are not high that that will work out.

Philly Museum (http://www.philamuseum.org/exhibitions/special/current.html)

And their permanant collection is AMAZING! Soo much good stuff. The admission is $8 for students, but Sundays is "Pay what you wish"

And also near by is the Rodin Museum (http://www.rodinmuseum.org/). Admission is a "suggested donation of $3" so you could probably slip in without paying. And the sculptures are incredible. I'm pretty sure you said you've seen the stuff in France, but this also a really good collection.

There's always the Franklin Institute (http://www2.fi.edu/) too. And Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell! (Can you tell I loved Philadelphia?)

Although, most of those cost money, and I'm not sure you'd be willing to go to Philly for just a historic thing/museum. I did find this (http://www.explorenewengland.com/travel?special=specials/attractions/) while googling. Maybe something there strikes your fancy?

:) And there's probably some sort of absurdity (http://www.budgettravelonline.com/bt-dyn/content/article/2005/06/04/AR2005060400465_pf.html) you can get into.

Hope that helps seester!

I'm such a hilarious person:

Instead of a road trip, I'll take a Rodin trip! A Roadin Trip!

Hahahahaha it's late.

The friend who refuses to sleep on the ground despite our greatest attempts earlier this semester to convince her that camping was a good idea? I think she'd come around eventually.

We never really planned a camping trip. We just discussed it at length one night over beers. She was never fond of the idea of primitive camping, but she'd so go.

Ah. I'm actually not fond of primitive camping myself, but when I'm in control I think it's a bit better. Besides, I won't REALLY camp. I'll probably buy myself breakfast and dinner instead of cooking it, and I'll just have foodstuffs in the cooler for lunch and snacks.

Anyway, she's going home for Thanksgiving. Just like everyone else who has families that love them and pay for their plane tickets.

Ahh. I'm going home for the holiday itself... but like all computer science students, I have too many projects to hack at to take the whole break.

Hey, I'm trying to get people interested in going to the HGS thing, are you interested? It's on the Monday before.

I'm thinking about going. Dunno if I'll be in town, though. Road trip, you know.

Right. Kicking around Zaroka on Friday?

I have no idea what Zaroka is, but the Cell Bio retreat is Friday... so probably not.

Oh well. Have fun on the retreat!

Oooooo damn. I wish I had a corn palace to take my baby mamma. well...if I had said baby mamma. Ah well. You get what I mean. Lol. Anyway...good luck on your trip! You should go to the Boston Museum of Fine Art in...Boston. Lol. If you happen to feel so inclined or in the area and you decide to check it out...see if you can find "Eternal Springtime" by Rodin. I really really want to see that piece in person. Next time I'm in the east coast neighborhood I will have to go to to that art museum. Le sigh.

oooo damn. Double post. I just saw that Megan also likes Rodin and proceeded to talk to her for like 10 minutes about it. I didn't see anyone's recommendations when I first posted. Hot damn. You must do something Rodin related. The gods wish it. J/k.

My sole warning about driving in random directions in New England around Thanksgiving is to watch out for snow. Seriously.

Oh, and I just realized what your background is (at least in a vague sense). Sweet!

Snow! I'd forgotten about that. Thanks... *silly California girl rethinks her travel plans*

Yeah, it's some random protein. Yay for ribbon structures! And nerds.
