...Substrate.

Sorry, inside joke.

So summer school started today. I got up at 7 and was out of the house by 7:40... caught a bus and rode to the metro center... caught a bus and rode to the bookstore... bought cofffffeeeee. Mmm. I think I'm starting to get addicted: today I actually enjoyed the taste of it. Mmm.
Got my summer ID sticker, too... so now I can ride the buses. It's pretty. For this quarter it's green. Last quarter it was yellow and really ugly.
OChem started at 9 and went until 11. I really like my professor, Palleros. He's Argentinian. He pronounces some things funny. Like "nodal" as something more like "mordal" or something. We have a deaf kid in the class, so we have someone that sits up front and signs the whole lecture, and the signers (both of them) couldn't figure out what "nodal" was even after Palleros wrote it on the board--he uses "Argentinian" letters, so his n looked like an m and everybody got really confused. "Normal? Modal? What??" I knew what was going on. So I sat there and laughed. Anyway, as I was saying, I like the guy, which is good, because he teaches the lab lecture, too, which immediately followed the normal (he he, normal, not nodal) lecture. Almost four hours of OChem straight, altogether. Ouch.

It's been a few hours since OChem ended... So I went down to SlugBooks and bought as many textbooks as they had, then went and got the remaining ones at Baytree. Bought lunch at 711 and ate it at a bus stop... More coffee. So tired.... Baytree doesn't have the molecular model kits, and apparently I need one. Grar.

Genetics starts in an hour and a half, so that's why I didn't just go home after OChem. I think I may have had plenty of time, though, seeing as OChem got out at 12:40 today and Genetics doesn't start until 6. Oh well. Live and learn. I have five weeks left to get the schedule down straight.

Speaking of home... I painted my room here in Santa Cruz this weekend. Saturday was my first night in my own real place (dorms don't count, I don't think). It was pretty awesome. It's a bit cold, but the bed is amazingly comfortable and very big. I like the bigness thing. Even though it's only me in it. Anyway, painting was fun. It's a light bluey/purple sort of thing, more purple at sunset and usually mostly blue. It looks great. George randomly called me yesterday morning and asked if I wanted to have lunch--he was in San Jose and on his way down here to go surfing. The wind was out of the north, though (bad for SC's south-facing beaches), so instead of going surfing after having lunch with me, he helped me finish painting. That was random and fun....
I took lots of before and after pictures of the room, and once I get everything put away and looking nice, I'll take some after after pictures, and then I'll put them all up online so you can all oooh and ahhh at them. Probably... this weekend or so. We'll see how much time OChem eats.

Anyway. Life is pretty good. I expect that these 12 credits are going to kill me over the next five weeks, so if I'm not online at all and no one ever hears from me, it's not because I hate you or because I've become a recluse. It's because I fell while carrying all my textbooks and haven't been able to get up again. No, really, it's because Palleros said we're supposed to spend about 12 hours a day on OChem. And that's not counting the lab. And then there's Genetics. So... say goodbye and wish me luck. I'll see you in five weeks.

I'm actually kinda rejoicing because after you take OChem, you, me and Lyla will finally have a sciency sort of subject that we can all be nerds about. Yay! How terrible is that? Anyway, OChem is a lot of work, but I actually enjoyed it. Good luck 'n stuff. Congrats on getting your own place.

P.S. Substrate!

Love you deary!
