Mother's Day is in two weeks. Does anyone have any good ideas? My mom has been super-amazing lately, and I want to do something really nice for her. Last year Mother's Day was the day before my birthday, so I sent her flowers on both days. I dunno if I want to do that again; but she ended up being in Santa Cruz to surprise me, so she didn't get the flowers until afterwards anyway. Thoughts? Suggestions?

O to still be at the age when a handprint in clay was a good gift...

well shoot. you said it yourself... "a handprint in clay"

if you were closer (in proximity) to elena you could do like your handprint and hers inside yours so you can see both hands--big and little sisters. *shrug* it could be from both of you. but you're kinda far away.

hmm... what else....ooh! i don't know how much you have to spend, but you could get her a mothers ring, ya know with yours and elena's birthstones on it. or maybe charms for a necklace? when my brother and i were little "we" (meaning my dad) would each buy a little charm (like #1 mom or a teddy bear or something that would remind her of us etc) to put on a charm holder (http://www.classic-charms.com/stersilfanch.html). obviously that one is expensive, but i've definitely seen ones that are cheaper. i think the one i have was $15-20. and that's something that my mom really enjoyed getting every year. i don't know how your mom is about jewelry though. maybe some dainty earrings that elena can't pull on?

flowers are always good. or maybe you can ask phil what he plans to do and if you guys want to share the costs of letting your mom go out for a day to pamper herself (get her hair done, get a pedicure; have some time to herself just to be out of the house; gift cards to go buy herself something nice while she's out and about; etc).

i hope something sparks your train of thought!

I'd say adopt an acre of rainforest, but that can be fairly expensive. So, perhaps a gift membership to the nature conservancy or some such, or, check out the heifer project (http://www.heifer.org/site/c.edJRKQNiFiG/b.204586/).

You can buy chicks for $20.00, or shares of things for $10.00.

Hmm. That's a cool idea. I'll look into that. Thanks!

Oh, and do you want to tell me about the Meru trip, of which I have heard nothing about? If your mother calls, what do I say?

*grin* As I told Leesh, if you get a call from my house from May 17-21, don't answer. And telling me would probably be good... You guys are great for putting up with this. =]

Yeah, no problem. So you're flying down to see him? That's some serious bravery.... I'm gonna want details afterward! And pictures!

I don't know if I'd call it bravery. Daring, maybe, which some might consider a synomym.... yeah, synomym, that's right.

We'll see about pictures.
