How many times has someone on your friends list posted about something and you were really confused, but you didn't want to ask because you knew you SHOULD know?
How many times have you felt "guilty" asking a close LJ friend a question that should be 'obvious'?
Well, here's your chance. If you've missed a few things, missed an entry and are confused, ask me anything. Even something EXTREMELY basic, like where I live! I'm not allowed to get even slightly irritated at any of the questions - we've all missed things before.
In turn, though, you must re-post this in your own journal.

Date: 2006-04-24 06:24 pm (UTC)From:My mom is 46. She had me at 25. Phil is her third husband; they got married about 8 or 9 years ago, when I was 12. Or 13. Gah. I don't remember what year it was. Phil has never had any kids, and I think my mom always wanted another child. Phil is 53. Almost 54.
About two years ago they decided they wanted to have a baby, and spent a year trying and going to fertility doctors and all sorts of things (none of which I knew about). They gave up, and a few months later Mom got pregnant. She waited to tell me. (I'm really, really, really unhappy with the way she told me, but that's a looong story.) She and Phil were thrilled, and went through all the tests and whatnot, and once it was clear that the baby had no genetic diseases or defects, they decided to go ahead with the pregnancy and keep the baby. And voila, at 20 I am a big sister for the first time.
I'm still coming to terms with this. Honestly, I'm really unhappy with the way my mom handled most of this, but I suppose a lot of our friction came from me being a spoiled only child. I miss the close friendship she and I used to have. I can't even hug her anymore without the baby being between us (literally). But she really wanted another baby, and she and Phil deserve to be happy. They'll be good parents to Elena.
And I'm sure I'll love Elena once she grows up a bit. Obviously I don't hate her (she obviously hasn't done anything wrong and isn't at fault), but she's not terribly interactive yet. Our relationship so far has consisted of about 90 minutes total of me holding her until she starts crying, then giving her back to Mom.

Date: 2006-04-24 06:30 pm (UTC)From:my mom always wanted "another" child (she had two), but it's also something that she wanted to have done before she had me, and i don't think there's any chance she'll have one now (although it's not impossible).
i was only an only child for 6 years, but i know what you mean about babies coming between only daughters and their mothers. nothing has ever been the same...
(i have a much better relationship with my sisters on my dad's side than my sister on my mom's)
