Also, you know how I said I was afraid Jim would get paid for the first three weeks of his current job and it would be $300? Well, I was wrong.

He got paid for the first two weeks, and it's $411. Including flight reimbursement to Phoenix.

He is actually losing money working at this job.

So, what does that work out to, like 3ยข an hour? o_O Fairly sure that's below minimum wage in every single nation on Earth.

Ugh, I don't even want to calculate it. It's a trucking company that requires its drivers to lease trucks. This is worse than being a company driver (company owns truck, pays for gas, is responsible for maintenance, reimburses tolls, pays you absolute shit per mile and per cargo load) and being an owner-operator (driver owns truck, pays for gas, maintenance, and tolls, and makes a lot of money per mile and per cargo load). He's responsible for tolls, maintenance, and gas, and while he makes a decent amount per mile or per load, he only makes any money at all if the truck is moving, and apparently the Oakland ports are basically at a stand-still all the time, and his company is incapable of scheduling their way out of a birthday party, so he keeps showing up to places to pick up or drop off loads and they're closed, or he gets halfway somewhere and they cancel, and then he makes no money for that load. Plus he's paying for food on the road all the time and driving back and forth across bridges that charge $25 for semis like three times a day. And they promised he'd be home 5-6 nights a week and he's been home like six nights total THIS MONTH. So yeah.

The logical question is, "How does this company stay in business if it treats its employees this badly?" The answer is, "They don't." They're a branch of a national company and this branch is being shut down soon because IT'S UTTER SHIT.

So yeah. He's gonna quit as soon as we can buy a 4-door car and he can start the other job.
