Birthday week
May. 13th, 2005 03:26 pmWow! What an INSANE week this was.
Saturday afternoon Gareth called me. Somehow I always seem to be doing something stupid right before I talk to him. I was taking a nap (a break from studying for evil midterms...), and when the phone rang, instead of sitting up and answering the phone, I fell out of bed all wrapped up in my comforter (which is bulky), couldn't get myself unwrapped, couldn't find my glasses, couldn't get the music on my computer to stop playing, and when I finally found my glasses and the phone I was shocked to see who was calling. So I answered the phone completely flustered and confused, and with loud Weezer playing in the background. Well... such is my life.
But at any rate, we had a good conversation and decided we should hang out. Now, when I ran into him a month ago he said he'd call me in "a week or two" and last Saturday was more than three weeks since I'd seen him, so I'd long since given up hope. But... we called each other a few times this week (phone tag... fun) and ended up setting up a thing (a date? I have NO idea what he thinks this is, but I think it's probably a date, right?) for tonight. He's coming over and we're going to make dinner and watch Spiderman. So... probably a date, right?
Anyway. Back to how my week was.
Mom came down Sunday night... and let me tell you, Sunday was a crazy day. I was on campus all day Sunday studying. But that meant that I could relax Monday... which was my birthday! I love birthdays. Last year's kind of sucked... It just didn't feel right. This year was awesome. I wore a beaded wire tiara crown type deal thing that Stef made for me ages ago and I felt like a princess. I got a TON of stuff, too. Everyone was so generous and thoughtful this year... It was amazing. Overwhelming. I hadn't expected much. I got books and craft projects and the third season of Gilmore Girls and a stuffed microbe (mono--thanks a lot, Leesh *grin*) and a new cell phone (well, I paid for that, but it arrived on my birthday, so it felt like another present) and (are you ready for this?) a WETSUIT. Yes. A brand new amazing gorgeous O'Neill wetsuit. Now I can go swimming and people won't think I'm crazy for going in the water without one, and I can learn how to surf and I won't freeze to death. I'm so excited! Now I'm DEFINITELY learning to surf this summer.
Mom went home Tuesday morning... which was too bad. I had fun hanging out with her.
Tuesday morning I went into lab to talk to Don about my thesis. Do I really want to do this? I hate this. I'm starting to dread going to Baskin. I HATE the stuff I'm working on. Do I really want to be a biochemist? I decided Tuesday was a bad time to think about all this stuff... so maybe this weekend or next week I'll sort through these questions. I need to think about this.
I turned in a paper on Tuesday, had a massive (and really fucking difficult) biochem midterm Wednesday, and spent every second between the end of that midterm and 2:00 today studying for my physics midterm, which turned out to be pretty easy. I mean, it was a hard test, but I think I studied enough, and for the most part I knew what I was doing with the questions. The last one was a little difficult, but I think I got it. Glad I studied so much, though... after failing the first test my grade could use a really high A. And by "could use" I mean "needs."
So that's been this week... Tonight is the thing with Gareth, so I need to go frantically clean my room and my kitchen... and tomorrow I'm going skydiving with Ann. Yay! I'm really excited about that. I hope it's a nice day....
Oh, and could someone please tell my subconscious that from now on I'll be choosing the subject matter of my dreams, and that last night's dream was not appreciated?
Man. My first week of my 20's rocked. (Despite the midterms.)

Oh! I saw my icon and it reminded me of this morning. I was walking to class up at College Ten and I saw a mother deer and her two brand-new baby fawns. They were absolutely adorable... They were really tiny, and all spotted and stuff.... Aww. Twin deer. Made the rest of my day happy. :-D
