I am participating in NaNoWriMo for the first time ever.

Please feel free to begin the mocking now.

P.S. The icon is a lie. I won far more than 7 games (the author of that icon must really suck at Solitaire) and I have more than a page written already.

Edited to add:
My cousin has this list of rules for herself for NaNoWriMo.
1) No laptop watching. Time watching Television shows online is time that could be spent writing
2) No knitting. If you can knit, you can type on a laptop
3) No Internet surfing
4) Procrasting won't help
5) Avoid all forms of procrastinating
6) Stop procrastinating by updating your blog
8) Stop pracrastinating by making up pointless rules
9) ENOUGH WITH THE BLOGGING!!!!
10) Write like crazy now, worry about editing later

So far today I have:
1. Watched an episode of Grey's Anatomy on my laptop, despite having stopped watching the show two years ago.
2. Knitted.
3. Surfed the internet.
4. Procrastinated
5. Lots
6. Even using cleaning to procrastinate is still procrastination
7. realized she skipped 7 on her list
8. continued to write "procrastinated" on my copy of her list
9. had zero willpower to stop blogging
10. written a page and a half and gotten the main character almost fully introduced

cleaning used to be one of my biggest procrastination techniques. these days, i'm not up for major cleaning, so i work on other projects instead, like writing admissions essays that aren't due until january.

The point of NaNoWriMo isn't necessarily to adhere to the schedule. The point of NaNoWriMo is to get people used to sitting down and writing every day. Creativity, like any muscle, gets stronger if you flex it.

So don't stress. Just give it a shot every day. The story will come out, if there is one inside you waiting to be birthed this way. And, since there is at least one such story waiting in everybody, you're completely good to go. =)

Break a leg! =)
