I'm writing a short story about coral and unrequited love.

Post your favorite fun fact about coral. Or about unrequited love, although those are probably less "fun facts" and more... not... fun... or facts....

Hmmm. Unrequited love. Interesting subject. I really had a giant crush on this girl in high school. We hit it off pretty strongly in my regular English class in 11th grade. I got her number and we had some good convos on the phone. However, I had NO IDEA whatsoever on how to "close the deal" so to speak. I figured if I just tried to be as awesome as possible (read = funny, nice, etc) that I would instantly beget attraction. Bwahahaha. Oh man, I was dumb back then. So yeah, I went on sort of "friendly" group date with her and her friends (we saw Star Wars Episode 2) and soon after I found out that she was dating some older guy who worked at Baskin Robbins. Ha ha ha. Oh...the terrible poetry that resulted from having an unrequited crush go for the ice cream man over you. ;)

In retrospect, the story amuses me greatly. :)

At the time, I was obviously not so able to see the humor in things.

I think high school is the breeding ground for unrequited love...

...Is it about unrequited love for coral?

Unrequited love is the greatest misuse of resources in the universe. The lover stares at the beloved, wondering why s/he doesn't care--feeling prepared to offer them the universe, feeling slighted that the beloved has dismissed the lover so utterly as to have no idea. In such circumstances, one either gives up, or begins to go mad.

As for coral, I have several hunks of it my bathroom, for no good reason at all. I think I had picked them up, taken then home, was cleaning them with a toothbrush, and then forgot to take them out again.

This is a relevant fact which I feel you need to know.

...maybe.

What color are the hunks of color in your bathroom! And where did you get them?

I can't remember what beach I got them at, but they are a boring beige/yellow/off-white color.
ten years later!

okay, let's see. coral. there's some coral you can't touch because it stings. and there's a type of coral that looks a bit like a brain and it's even called brain coral!
Not bad for ten years later!

Except if you mean fire coral. In which case, you fail, because fire coral isn't actually coral. :-P

i wish you'd asked a question about palm trees instead. i did much better on those! they don't grow where temperatures go below freezing, and i can draw you an awesome mexican fan palm!
Now, that's just silly. A story about unrequited love among coral is one thing. But a story about unrequited love among palm trees! Preposterous!

Still, a mexican fan palm could be a nice illustration for the cover... Maybe I can work one into the story!
yes, it would make a nice illustration for pretty much any story about unrequited love. let me know when you get to that stage!
