I finally ran the stupid preliminary TBARS assay today. Only, what, two weeks after I was supposed to run the damn thing. This is what you get for meeting with your advisor the day before the assay four times in a row. NEVER meet with your advisor before you do something; he'll just tell you to change your procedure, and then when you bring him the changed procedure, he'll tell you to either change it back or change something else, and before you know it you either have EXACTLY WHAT YOU STARTED WITH or a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ASSAY. So it's best to just go ahead and do whatever you were going to do and deal with the wrath later.

Anyway.

I got my pchem midterm back today. Jamie was totally right; I had nothing to be worried about. The average was a 60, the range was 0 to 97 (Milhauser was shocked that someone scored a 0; so am I), and 4 people (out of... ?) scored 90 or above. Milhauser said that below 50 was a Bad Thing and above 70 was Something to Be Proud Of. He said the high scorers showed "an exceptionally high level of sophistication and knowledge of the material" or something like that. And then they proceeded to hand the midterms back by calling out our names one by one. Fifteen minutes later...

I got a 90! Fourth highest score in the whole class! I thought I completely bombed #5, but I only missed 5 points on it, and I missed 5 points on #4 because I forgot to write down what k was, but I did the rest of the problem right. These tests are set up so that Problems 1, 2, and 3 are pretty easy and straightforward, while problems 4 and 5 are supposed to challenge you and make you look at things in a new light, and most people don't get them. So the fact that I got 15/20 on both 4 AND 5 shows that... I'm a genius. Or I just have a really high level of understanding of calculus, which I swear was the most important thing to know going into that test.... Anyway, I'm thrilled. I didn't expect to do so well. I did better than Robin. That never happens. ...Hmm. I seem to do better in classes I like. Imagine that.

Slightly lonely today. Happy about the pchem midterm... but a little lonely.

And damnit Ann! It's time for you to come home. I miss you!
