Non-knitters beware. This is a knitting post.
Kayla, this post contains pictures and information on your wedding gift. If you want to see, you may (and feel free to comment or request or whatever), but I put it behind a cut so as not to spoil the surprise unnecessarily.
Pattern is from Vogue Knitting's Baby Blankets on the Go Two or whatever order they put those words in. The sampler blanket. Thing. Mine will not be a baby blanket. It will be a wedding blanket. It will be big, and it will be cotton, and knitters all around the world will bow down before my amazing geniosity, and my cousin will love it.
And that's the way it's gonna be.
Needles: Size 7 24" Addi Turbo circulars. I bought them specifically for this project because I love AT, and I figured I could justify the purchase ("What?! It's for a wedding project, not for me!"). (Actually, I accidentally bought size 9 ATs first, so technically I got two sets of needles for this project, but that's just because I can't count.)
Yarn is Classic Elite Cotton Flamme, in Celery, Cornflower (er, I think it's Cornflower. It's color 1942), White, and Santa Fe. It's a thick 'n' thin yarn, which I didn't really internalize before I bought it, and the first few squares looked a little dubious (the basketweave pattern doesn't show up so well), but after washing and blocking, I'm much happier with the look.
On to the squares!
Squares! ...Seven of which I might actually use!

Details of some of my favorites. This first one is by far my favorite pattern; fun to knit, pretty to look at. Looks nice in green. I think I'll do it in blue next. I'll probably end up doing all of them in all the colors, though....

My first experience cabling.

The flag pattern, which I'm not sure about yet... it doesn't show up very well....

The wave pattern, which I'm also not sure about yet. It's interesting, but not really reminiscent of waves or anything, and is A ROYAL PAIN IN THE ASS TO KNIT. It requires a p3tog like every four stitches. *cries*

The rosebud lace pattern, which I think is my second favorite. I want to do this one in green next.

I'm tempted to try to make some multicolored squares; would that look weird?
Eventually I will crochet around the edges, block them all to the same size, and sew them together. Then I'll knit a border, and sew that around the edge of the whole thing. And then I'll cry, and give it to my cousin for her 50th wedding anniversary, because damn that's a lot of end-in-weaving and kitchener-stitching and there's no way it'll be done by July. But I'm making a good effort. I was doing a square a day for a few days there... I'm like five days behind now....
Also: My bag o' balls, the next square (a remake of the diamond pattern in blue), THE MISSING CROCHET HOOK (it was between a couple of folded shirts in my clean laundry pile--????), and my foot with its lovely green toenails.
