- to turn forward from one place or to advance by turning
Join us for the fifth evening of Elm City Waltz, indulging in and
celebrating couple/ballroom dancing from the 19th century to the
present in all its forms - ballroom, vintage, folk, country, swing,
and more. Dancers of all styles, interests, and ability levels are
welcome!
WALTZES
- modern, Viennese, rotary, cross-step, redowa, hesitation waltz, leap
waltz, slow waltz, fast waltz, half-and-half...all styles welcome!
At least half of our dances will be waltzes of various styles and
speeds. Interspersed will be other couple dances, ranging from polka
and schottische to tango and cha cha. We may also indulge in a contra
or sequence dance, a lindy hop or a line dance, as the mood and music
take us. A free beginner's lesson is offered beforehand, and there
will be occasional brief bits of instruction during the evening for
particular dances, but mostly it will be music, music, music, and
dancing, dancing, dancing, with brief breaks for refreshments and
socializing.
Our music will range from very traditional waltz music to very strange
tunes you might never have thought to dance to. We will take some
requests, and if you bring along a CD might play a tune or two from
it. Please come with a friendly attitude, an enthusiasm for dance,
and a willingness to try something new! And bring a friend!
There is no hard-and-fast dress code, and we won't be turning anyone
away, but festive dressing is encouraged - please leave the t-shirts
and shorts at home. Smooth-soled shoes (not rubber soles) are
encouraged for easier dancing! Clean shoes help keep the floor nice.
