ROAD TRIP!!!

So... I'm gonna go to Maine for a couple days. I think. I mean, I'm gonna get in my car and drive north and see what's up there. I need to get out of New Haven for a bit, and I want to see more of New England, and I could use some time to myself to think. If you get a strange phone call from me it'll probably be because I'm somewhere no one has ever been before and I just want to share the moment.

I'm so excited!

I'll be back in a day or two; I have no concrete plans and no set direction. If no one's heard from me in 48 hours, assume I was kidnapped by rabid lobsters.

EDIT: Hmm, upon reflection, if it's going to take me five hours to drive there, and I'm already feeling like I need a nap, what I might do instead is dedicate the rest of today to preparing, and then leave at first light tomorrow.
NEW PLAN! Go to bookstore, get maps. Go to craft store, get craft supplies so I can pull over and do something other than drive and sightsee. Go to drug store and pick up disposable camera. Take nap. Cook packable food. Buy ice. Load car. Go to bed early.

Hope you had a lovely trip to Maine! It's a part of the country I've always wanted to visit...I should have done it before graduate school - these days I'm closer to the other Portland than the one in Maine...

Ahh! Maine was awesome. It was a little weird taking a solo road trip, but I think I'd recommend it.
My best friend took a solo trip up to Washington last summer and loved that as well. If you can't get to Maine, maybe you could still wander around some other awesome states...?

There are definitely a LOT of things I should have done before grad school. But a quick road trip really only takes a few days; just take off a Friday and a Monday and go see something!

Oh, I'm definitely into the quick road trip! Just took one last weekend in fact. But, as you pointed out, everything is so SMALL on the East Coast, and you can get to so many cool places in just a few hour drive. As you know, the same cannot be said for the West Coast. While we have plenty of cool stuff to see, it can take a long-ass time to get to it...
